Alexandra specializes in Pet Portraits and Abstracts. Born in Monterrey, NL, Mexico, art has been in Alexandra’s family for many generations. Her great uncle, Raul Acevedo, was a famous artist in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. Art is in Alexandra’s blood. As a child, she loved drawing and painting, creating portraits for family and friends. At the age of 13, she attended boarding school in Switzerland where she studied French, music, and art. Returning to Mexico, Alexandra continued to refine her skill.
An artist’s influences
In 1992, she moved to Houston, Texas and enrolled in the Art Institute of Houston. She discovered the beauty of watercolor through her first mentor, the great watercolor artist, David Hickman. She sold her first painting that year. Her next mentor was well-respected local artist David Adickes. In 1996, she apprenticed with him while he created the heads of presidents sculpture project. Alexandra also attended workshops with admired sculptor Willy Wang and credits him with her inspiration to hone her skills in rendering the finer elements of the human face in portraiture.
